Digital Media - Mistake to Avoid #2: What Happens When Your Competitors Start Talking To Your Users, In Your Own Aisle | Digital Dudette

A word of advice to publishers, when you’re getting good traffic with your website and you think you’d like to earn some money out of Google’s Adsense, please ensure it is properly done. I mean what’s the point of spending so much of money on Adwords, maintaining the top rank for relevant search results, only to direct the traffic that appears to your site back to your competitor?!! Absolutely silly!

Here’s classic example of Mr.Think Property against their closest competitor Mr.iProperty. Take a look at the chart from Alexa below comparing both the sites traffic, clearly giving iProperty the traffic advantage by almost 15x.

Makes perfect sense that Think Property does a lil Adwords campaign directing traffic to their site (sadly buying their own keyword but failing to bid on iProperty).

Still great, makes a lot of sense since the largest bulk of traffic (20%) is deriving from search engines (according to Alexa). So Think Property spends their money on Adwords leading traffic to their site, hoping to increase their own ad revenue. But what really sucks is that and they’ve got iProperty’s banner on their landing page, at the most prominent spot!!!

@#$%^&!

I’m not sure how many percentage of users are clicking on that ad and if it’s contributing a large traffic to iProperty. Doesn’t matter, it doesn’t look good at any level. You are allowing your competitors to steal your traffic in your very own doorstep, and it’s not acceptable!

FYI, a recent addition to the property market is www.desireproperty.com.my.
